Manchester United host Manchester City at Old Trafford in the first-leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final tonight.

A blockbuster derby fixture over two legs will decide who reaches March’s final at Wembley.

After a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal and a 0-0 draw with Wolves in the FA Cup, the Red Devils are expected to field their strongest available side with a trip to Wembley at stake. Manchester City are also expected to field a strong team after Pep Guardiola shuffled his pack during the 4-1 FA Cup win over Port Vale on Saturday. Follow live coverage below:

Prediction

Manchester United stunned City with derby victory at the Etihad in December, but the reigning champions should have too much quality against an injury-struck Red Devils side on Tuesday.

Both sides name strong starting XIs, then, as expected. United bring in Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, Fred, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Phil Jones after a goalless draw against Wolves in the FA Cup third round on Saturday.

City also rested several key players in their third round tie against Port Vale, so Pep Guardiola makes eight changes tonight. Neither team are taking this lightly.

City will be strong favourites to reach the final over two legs, but last month's 2-1 defeat against their city rivals remains fresh in the memory. United's form has been inconsistent since then, but they have proven themselves capable of competing against a team described by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as "the best in the world".

"The game we lost here in the league we played one of the best first halves," Pep Guardiola has said in the buildup to tonight's game. "We played incredible, but played 10 or 15 minutes bad in the second half and they recovered.

"We conceded a few counter-attacks and in just two or three seconds they were in the box. We saw how fast they are, how they run on the counter-attack, how solid and how aggressive.

"A top club like United you can lose, but we beat them more times than we lose."

Solskjaer, meanwhile, has insisted results over the last few weeks mean nothing when it comes to the Manchester Derby.

"In a derby it's about adrenalin and atmosphere," he said.

"I admire Pep. They've raised the bar so much it's something to aim for. They're back winning games and confident, but form goes out of the window [in a derby]."

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer speaking to Sky Sports: "If we create as many chances as we did last month [against City] I will be happy. We play a good team, hopefully we can see the same. It's a young team, loads of energy.

"We have injuries at the back, Harry Maguire is out and Phil Jones is ready to come in. We have given the young lads a good chance here tonight. It's probably the biggest game they have played.

"That's the way to learn, you don't know until they get a chance in a game like this and I'm sure they will enjoy it. Every game is big for Manchester United."
