Brighton drew with Southampton at St Mary’s on Thursday, missing out on a chance to secure their place in next season’s Premier League.

Neal Maupay opened the scoring on 17 minutes as the visitors looked set to guarantee their survival, but Danny Ings struck his 20th league goal of the season shortly after the hour mark to ensure the points were shared.

Re-live all the action below:

What are the odds?

Southampton – 13/10

Draw – 5/2

Brighton – 5/2

Prediction

Both teams will want to get on the ball and control possession, which could lead to an open match with counter-attacks aplenty and chances at both ends. Saints are more clinical, so they win.

81 mins: Into the final ten minutes. Brighton have slightly calmed Southampton down with that Bissouma chance but they're still coming.

Ings receives the ball in the box but he backheels it to Adams who shoots. Mooy puts himself in front of the shot and it hits him full in the face before going out for a corner.

87 mins: Webster and Ryan both have treatment on the pitch for some knocks they've picked up. Both are absolutely fine but Brighton need to run down the clock.

Brighton move to 37 points, six above the bottom three with a far superior goal difference. They're not yet mathematically safe but they've got at least one foot in the door to next season.

Reaction from Brighton's Neal Maupay, he said:

"It's massive for us, we came here to win but they were good in the second half and now we need to finish it off on Monday.

"We are not safe yet, we will keep fighting but it was a big step tonight. During lockdown it was hard for us as a team but the whole club have done an incredible job to keep us focused.

"The spirit is good and we always believe in ourselves."
