FCSB 0-2 Man Utd: Ruben Amorim’s men booked their place in the last-16 with a fine outing in Romania
Manchester United secured their place in the Europa League last-16 with a competent if unspectacular performance away at FCSB.
Ruben Amorim’s side controlled the game from the very start and dominated possession in the first half though they found it difficult to break through the hosts’ defences. FCSB actually came closest to opening the scoring as Mihai Popescu met a free kick and poked the ball just wide of the target.
United, however, lacked tempo and pace but with a firm grip on the game Amorim made changes at half-time and brought on pacey wingers Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo.
The deadlock came from a quick throw in from Amad who found Christian Eriksen. The Dane slipped Kobbie Mainoo into the box and he squared to Diogo Dalot for a tap in. Garnacho then had his say in the second goal. He bombed forward on the left, received the ball from Mainoo then sent it back to the midfielder who side-footed home.
It’s three wins from three now for Man Utd and their Europa League campaign is going swimmingly.

45+3 mins: If you’re a diehard Manchester United you will be feeling positive after that half.
The team dictated and controlled play. They didn’t do a whole lot with it but the visitors weren’t in much danger of losing the ball either.
It’s a sign that the players can learn and develop. If they can convert that control into a win in the second half it’ll be a fine performance and result.

There’s a lack of confidence there that gets exposed when you run at them quickly.

Man Utd are getting closer. They’re being patient and are trying to move the ball quickly.
Martinez delivers another decent pass into the box and finds Hojlund.
The forward’s header is weak though and hasn’t got the power to beat the goalkeeper.

FCSB take the resultant free kick and go backwards trying to force United to press and pick off any space between the lines.

23 mins: Bruno Fernandes tries to take a quick free kick and get Kobbie Mainoo into the left side of the box.
Mainoo doesn’t have control of the ball and loses it to a well timed lunge.
FCSB look to clear their lines but only succeed in giving the ball back to United.

This one is just outside the box and slightly to the right.
Bruno Fernandes and Lisandro Martinez stand over the ball. Martinez takes it but blazes the effort high and wide.
