Gary Lineker has announced that he has signed a new five-year contract with the BBC, amid reports that his new deal will also allow him to front BT Sport's Champions League coverage next season.

According to a report in The Telegraph yesterday, Match of the Day host Lineker's new non-exclusive contract with the BBC will enable him to take roles with other networks.

Lineker first presented Match of the Day back in 199, and said today he was "thrilled" to sign a new deal.

The BBC has renewed its deal to show Premier League highlights until 2019.

BT Sport paid £897million for three years' worth of coverage of the Champions League, and will hold a press conference next Tuesday to unveil its line-up.

Lineker is expected to join the team which includes the recently retired Rio Ferdinand and Jake Humphrey.

Humphrey revealed he has signed a four-year extension to his contract with BT on his official website.

He wrote: "I’m over the moon to commit my future to BT Sport for the next four years, and become part of the their team hosting the Champions League next season.

"From August, for the next three season, BT Sport will be the only place that you can see live Champions League football.
