Jamie Carragher returns to Sky Sports role for first time since spitting incident

The 40-year-old was suspended from his role in March

Jamie Carragher returned to his role as a Sky Sports football expert for the first time since the controversial spitting incident in March.

The 40-year-old was suspended from his role for the remainder of the season, when he spat from his car at another transporting a 14-year-old girl and her father, who had been taunting him about Manchester United's earlier victory over Liverpool.

Carragher recently met Sky Sports' managing director Barney Francis to discuss his future with the organisation, and, after he demonstrated the extent of his regret, it was agreed the former Liverpool defender would return to his role for the new domestic campaign.

He made a brief appearance in July, giving an interview following England's World Cup semi-final defeat to Croatia.

Carragher featured prominently on Tuesday in Sky's Premier League Launch Show, which included interviews with the likes of Pep Guardiola and Vincent Kompany.

He settled back in, exchanging jibes with fellow pundit Gary Neville and scoring a victory over the former Manchester United man.

For a penalty competition, Neville settled on a bet, saying he would wear a Liverpool shirt if he lost, as long as Carragher wore a United top if he was beaten.

Neville said that Carragher could fulfil the forfeit in good time - "When you've felt your way back in, in the show in a few weeks".

But Neville missed his penalty and Carragher converted, meaning Neville must pull on a Liverpool top on television.

"I'll buy it, '23 Carragher' on the back - no, I tell you again, '23 Shaqiri' on the back, he hates (Xherdan) Shaqiri," Carragher said.

Neville rejected the claim, saying he liked Liverpool's summer signing from Stoke, and a gloating Carragher said: "I'll get him to get you a signed shirt."

The former Liverpool and England defender apologised for the spitting incident in March, saying at the time it was a "moment of madness", while Sky Sports said he had fallen "well below the standards we expect".

It is understood Carragher is expected to be involved in the broadcaster's coverage of matches on Monday and Friday evenings in a similar role as before.
