England's win at the Twenty20 World Cup proved that athletes from these shores don't always bottle it, and can in fact win the top prizes in world sport.

With the biggest competition of them all coming up in South Africa, we look for some inspiration for Fabio Capello's team by remembering England's World Cup winners.

The tournaments we've selected here were open to the world, and while not all of them were particularly prestigious, they were won by the English. The likes of the Ashes, Formula One winners and the Olympics miss out as we remember the times that we could rightfully claim: "England have won the World Cup!"
