Alan Shearer trolled by Ant and Dec with 'this is what it's like to win' jibe at RTS Awards
Shearer missed out on the Sports Presenter, Commentator or Pundit award to David Coulthard just before Ant and Dec took to the stage
Nowhere is safe for Alan Shearer. Not St James’ Park, not the Match of the Day studio, not even the Royal Television Society Awards.
At least not when television presenters Ant and Dec are around. The pair took to the stage in London to accept their Best Entertainment Performance award for their double act on Britain’s Got Talent, I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here and Saturday Night Takeaway.
After picking up their award, Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly both thanked their production teams for helping to make the three shows the successes that they are before turning to leave the stage.
However, the Geordie pair had one last trick up their sleeve, and Ant quickly returned to the microphone to take aim at Shearer, tongue-in-cheek, just minutes after he missed out on the award for the Sports Presenter, Commentator or Pundit to ex-Formula One driver David Coulthard.
“Shearer, this is what it’s like to win”, said Ant, prompting an outburst of laughter from the audience.
Despite missing out on the gong to former BBC presenter Coulthard – who has joined Channel 4 as part of their new F1 coverage – Shearer will have been able to cheer himself up by going home to his Premier League winners’ medal.
