French football legends Zinedine Zidane and Patrick Vieira have pulled out of David Beckham’s Unicef charity match at Old Trafford after they were not included in the rest of the world squad.

No reason was given for the pair’s absence, but it comes less than a day after the tragic attacks in Paris killed at least 127 people in a series of shooting and explosions.

The match, which is being played at Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium to raise funds for Unicef, sees a host of famous names from the football world come together in a Great Britain and Ireland vs rest of the world format.

Zidane was due to captain the rest of the world side with former Arsenal midfielder Vieira among his players, but the pair were not included in the squads on match day.

Other French players in the squad, including Mikael Silvestre and Robert Pires, did play in the match.

Timeline of Paris attacks

All professional sporting events in France have been postponed this weekend due to Friday’s shocking attacks, and a minute’s silence was held before kick-off to allow the players and fans in the stadium to pay their respects to the victims of the attacks.
