The Football Supporters' Federation has launched its campaign to reduce away ticket prices and help make the game more affordable.

Dozens of fans attended a meeting in Manchester, where it became clear that clubs both in and outside the Premier League will find themselves lobbied hard by their own supporters, demanding that a fair deal be offered to away fans. Followers of Liverpool, Manchester United and many other clubs were of one voice last night in their resolve to help each other by demanding an away ticket cap of £20.

Nine out of 10 fans who have completed the FSF's 2012 National Fans' Survey said that ticket prices were too high. Four out of every 10 said that they were attending fewer matches because of ticket prices.

The FSF said the problem is especially acute for away supporters who are covering spiralling transport, food and refreshment costs in addition to paying some of the highest prices for football in Europe.

"It's not just about us lobbying the Premier League but lobbying at club level," said the FSF's Michael Brunskill. "People do recognise that away fans do spend more time and effort on their team and deserve this collective effort." The Manchester meeting, which will be replicated by events across Britain, canvassed ideas for the campaign.
