Football in brief: Scan shows Agger bruised but unbroken after Blackburn clash

Liverpool: Daniel Agger is to undergo treatment for a bruised bone in his knee, which he sustained during Sunday's 2-1 victory against Blackburn.

The defender left Anfield on crutches after the match, but fortunately does not require any lengthy surgery like fellow Reds centre-back Martin Skrtel, who is out with a broken metatarsal. "Daniel underwent a scan this morning which has shown severe bruising to the bone in his right knee."

A club spokesman said. "The knee is still very swollen and he will continue to receive treatment at Melwood [Liverpool's training centre] this week."

Gunners leapfrog rivals Chelsea in rich list

Arsenal: Arsenal have overtaken Chelsea in the “rich list” of European clubs while Manchester United have dropped into third place, with Barcelona taking their place in second behind their Spanish rivals Real Madrid.

The Deloitte Football Money League sees the two La Liga clubs secure the top spots, mainly because of the continuing decline of the pound against the euro. The most notable change in the list, based on clubs’ revenue excluding transfer fees, sees Arsenal leapfrog Chelsea into fifth with the Gunners recording a 7 per cent rise in revenue to £224m compared to their London rivals’ £206m – a 3 per cent fall. Bayern Munich remain fourth on the list.

Turner wants change of luck for Black Cats

Sunderland: The defender Michael Turner has admitted the Black Cats need to return to winning ways soon if they are to avoid a relegation battle. The club have now gone 14 games without winning a League win after Sunday's goalless draw with Fulham at the Stadium of Light, and have taken 27 points from 27 games, a tally worryingly close to the total relegated neighbours Middlesbrough and Newcastle had collected at the same stage last season.

Sunderland have also only scored twice in their last six league games."We need a win badly," Turner said. "We have another three home games on the trot now so, hopefully, we can do better against Bolton next week."
