Football in Brief: Tranmere 'Physio' Parry pays the price; Moyes calls for pay cuts for all; Butcher blasts FA for 'farce'

Les Parry has been sacked as manager of Tranmere in the wake of Saturday's 1-0 defeat at fellow strugglers Chesterfield. Rovers have been on a miserable run of form in recent weeks and have now not won for 11 matches, with just five points gained. With their last League One victory coming at home to Bury on 30 December, Tranmere are now just one point above the drop zone.

Parry was the Tranmere physio when appointed as manager in October 2009, taking over from John Barnes after the former England international's ill-fated four-month spell, and he succeeded in avoiding relegation that season and in 2010-11.

Moyes calls for pay cuts for all

David Moyes, the Everton manager, has called for "everyone" in the Premier League to take a 20 per cent pay cut and make football more affordable for supporters.

"Perhaps the suggestion would cause mayhem," Moyes said. "We have to take responsibility for the long-term health of football. Everyone in the Premier League should take a 20 per cent pay cut to allow a reduction in ticket prices to make it affordable for the ordinary fan."

Butcher blasts FA for 'farce'

Former England captain Terry Butcher has called the Football Association's search for a new manager "a farce". Fabio Capello quit in February and the FA's head of development Sir Trevor Brooking stated a permanent appointment could be made just days before Euro 2012 in June.

"I think it's a farce," Butcher said. "We've got two warm-up games in May before the European Championship. You're looking to get a settled squad and an idea of what the starting side will be for the first match and we're a million miles away. I think the FA must be bolder and if they want Harry Redknapp, really go for him. If not, then get someone else in."
