Football in Brief: Ajax
Ajax
The Dutch club have suspended striker Luis Suarez for two league matches after he bit PSV Eindhoven's Otman Bakkal on the shoulder during their 0-0 draw on Saturday. The Uruguay striker, who was sent off in the World Cup for handball on the goal-line, also faces disciplinary action from the Dutch FA.
Wolverhampton
Captain Karl Henry is set to miss the next two months with a knee injury. The 28-year-old midfielder damaged medial knee ligaments against Blackpool on Saturday. "He's had a scan and I think there's a slight tear. It's a huge blow, especially with Dave Edwards out with a thigh strain," said manager Mick McCarthy.
Newcastle
Fabricio Coloccini insists he did not elbow Bolton's Johan Elmander on Saturday, but admitted he deserved his red card. The Argentine was sent off after catching the striker with a flailing arm. "It wasn't with my elbow, but it was a red card because it was my arm," he said. "The next time, I know I can't do it."
FA Cup
The Football Association has announced that a new award this season will recognise the team that achieves the most impressive giant-killing act in the FA Cup. The award is named after Ronnie Radford, whose goal for Hereford against Newcastle in 1972 brought about the FA Cup's most famous upset.
World Cup bid
England 2018 have sent envoys across the globe to try to secure support in next week's vote. The bid chairman, Geoff Thompson, and chief executive, Andy Anson, are being joined by Jeremy Hunt, the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, to woo the four Asian members of Fifa's 22-man executive committee.
