Liverpool are in serious contention to win the Premier League, something they have not done since 1990.

That team included the likes of Ian Rush, John Barnes and Peter Beardsley and is regularly cited as one of the great Liverpool sides.

But should the team assembled under Brendan Rodgers manage to beat Chelsea and Manchester City to the title they will surely take a seat alongside them.

With victory over Sunderland last night, the Reds moved within a point of top spot and with games against their fellow contenders to come at Anfield, their hopes are in their own hands.
