Louis van Gaal has assured Manchester United that he will go on the US tour with the club next month, even if his Netherlands' side make it all the way to the World Cup final.

United head to America on 18 July for their five-match tour, just five days after the World Cup final in Rio de Janeiro, which the Netherlands are just two matches away from now after defeating Mexico 2-1 in the last 16 fixture on Sunday evening.

Van Gaal has already sanctioned two deals while away with the Dutch national team, the £30m purchase of Luke Shaw from Southampton, and the £29m transfer of Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilabo.

The 62-year-old has also overseen contract extensions for Antonio Valencia and Patrice Evra.

United's non-World Cup players are due to report back for fitness tests on Friday, with assistant manager Ryan Giggs taking charge for the first part of pre-season training until after the tournament in Brazil.

United's US tour dates

23 July v Los Angeles Galaxy

26 July v AS Roma (Denver)

29 July v Inter Milan (Washington)

2 August v Real Madrid (Michigan)

4 August Champions Cup final (Miami)
