Luis Suarez labelled Steven Gerrard 'the greatest one' following yesterday's charity match at Anfield that also served as a tribute to the soon to be departing Liverpool captain.
In aid of the Liverpool FC Foundation, teams captained by Gerrard and Jamie Carragher made up of legends and current players played out a 2-2 draw. However the scoreline was unimportant with the return of former players Xabi Alonso, Luis Suarez and Fernando Alonso of much more interest to the sell-out crowd.
After the game, Suarez posted a picture of himself and Gerrard in which he labelled the current Reds skipper as the 'greatest one'.
Now playing for Barcelona, the Uruguayan didn't feature for long due to strict orders from his club. However he did have time to win a penalty and nutmeg Carragher.
It was Suarez's replacement, Mario Balotelli, who made the first significant contribution of the match when he scored from range. The Italian formed a dangerous partnership with Chelsea striker Didier Drogba for whom he set up with a fabulous assist. He was clearly pleased with his display judging by his Instagram post that saw him pictured with Drogba as well as Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.
After the match, former player Xabi Alonso took a picture on the Anfield turf with his 'Liverpool family'.
In response to the goals from Balotelli and Drogba, Gerrard converted two penalties. Aside from the goals, it was a magical pass from Henry that claimed the stand-out moment of the match.
