Manchester City have given Robinho their "full support" after the Brazil star was questioned following allegations of a serious sexual assault in Leeds.

West Yorkshire Police began an investigation after a student claimed she had been attacked at The Space nightclub in the city in the early hours of 14 January.

The striker was questioned yesterday and issued a statement on his website denying any "wrongdoing or criminality".

Robinho trained with City as normal today, and a statement on the club's official website, www.mcfc.co.uk read: "The club have been liaising with, and assisting, both the player in question and the authorities in relation to the West Yorkshire Police investigation.

"Both parties have been given the full support of the football club. No charges of any nature have been brought against the player and no further statement will be made whilst the investigation is continuing."

Police said detectives arrested a man yesterday and he was later released on bail.
