Manchester United have sacked one of their scouts after allegations that he posted racial slurs on social media site Facebook emerged, according to reports.

Torben Aakjaer is said to have been fired by the Premier league club for publishing anti-immigration posts on his Facebook page, according to a report in the Guardian.

The alleged posts have since been removed.

News of Aakjaer's suspension was confirmed by the club on Wednesday night following the original claims that surfaced earlier in the day, before an announcement was made that they had "terminated" ties with Aakjaer.

A United club spokesman said: “The club received the evidence from the Guardian, launched an immediate investigation into the matter and has terminated our association with Mr Aakjaer.

"Manchester United is an inclusive organisation and will not tolerate this sort of behaviour."

Aakjaer joined the United scouting team in 2011 after working at German side Hamburg. His Instagram page shows a number of pictures from their Carrington training base in which he describes it as his "working place", although he is based in the Danish capital of Copenhagen.

According to the Guardian, his Facebook account also contains other derogatory references to eastern Europeans. An apparent message of support for the right-wing Dansk Folkeparti’s views about border control, while there is also a photograph of six pigs with the caption: “It’s time to deploy our secret weapons against Islamists.”
