Swindon Town fan banned for life after punching Leyton Orient keeper Jamie Jones in the face

Swindon Town have banned a fan for life after he ran onto the pitch and punched Leyton Orient keeper Jamie Jones during yesterday's 3-1 defeat.

Jones was unhurt by the incident and able to continue the game as his side ran out comfortable winners, taking them back to the top of League One.

However manager Russell Slade said the unsavoury event had somewhat marred the result:

“That was the worst scene I’ve seen as a manager. It was a great win, but it was clouded by a fan running onto the pitch and throwing three punches at my goalkeeper.

“It is unbelievable. Jamie’s okay, but that doesn’t make it right. It’s outrageous. He [the supporter] needs a ban for life. He should never go to another football match.”

It was a request that Swindon were happy to accede to as Leyton Orient chief executive announced via his own Twitter account.

The FA have also confirmed it will be studying the referee's report and discussing the incident with both of the clubs, with Swindon facing possible sanctions.

An FA spokesman said: “We deplore scenes of this kind and would call for the authorities to take the appropriate actions if allegations of assault are proven.”
