Adnan Januzaj gives Manchester United a boost by admitting he is '100%' committed to earning success with the club

The 18-year-old's future remains unclear with his current contract expiring in the summer but United remain hopeful that he will stay with the Premier League side

Adnan Januzaj has boosted Manchester United’s hopes of securing the winger’s long-term future by admitting he is happy with the reigning Premier League champions and he want to help them to further success in the future.

The 18-year-old scored twice to give United a 2-1 comeback victory over Sunderland a fortnight ago, making his first start for the club and triggering a wave of speculation over his future in the process. Manager David Moyes is keen to tie Januzaj down to a long-term contract having given him his chance to impress, and avoid a situation similar to Paul Pogba’s Old Trafford exit happening this summer.

Januzaj’s current contract expires in the summer, and he will be free to discuss a move away from United for a minimal compensation fee as he is under 24-years-old. But his recent comments have strengthened the belief that he will prolong his stay in Manchester.

Speaking to Kosovo-based broadcaster KTV, Januzaj said: “I am happy at Manchester United and I want to commit myself 100 per cent in every game to do my best.

“I want to help Manchester United win the Premier League and become the best player in the world.”

With interest believed to be coming from both Barcelona and Juventus, Moyes is keen to resolve the situation sooner rather than later. The Italian league champions lured midfielder Pogba to the club last year, having rejected a contract extension with the Red Devils after failing to see first-team action under Moyes predecessor, Sir Alex Ferguson.

For this reason, Moyes is likely to select Januzaj more than he may have wanted when he joined the club, but on the basis of his early performances that may not be a bad thing.

While his club future is edging towards a resolution, where his international football lies is anyone’s guess. Eligible for his country of birth – Belgium – as well as Kosovo and Albania due to his parents heritage, he can also play for Turkey and Serbia should he choose to.

But the biggest controversy has come that he could choose to play for England should he complete the mandatory residency period of five years living in a country, meaning he would have to wait until 2016 at the earliest before he could play for the Three Lions.

Although it appeared he could be called-up for the Belgian side, his father Abedin Januzaj is to make the decision, and he is reported to have had a spat with Belgium’s manager Marc Wilmots.

“It is my dad who decides which national team I will play for so I will listen to him,” Januzaj confirmed.

United face Southampton on Saturday knowing that a win would get them back on track as they currently sit six points off league leaders Arsenal.
