An incredibly tight match at the Emirates saw the teams play out a dull stalemate.
Both sides came into the match on the back of painful results at the weekend - Arsenal losing 5-1 at Liverpool and Manchester United drawing 2-2 with Fulham.
The draw means that the Gunners remain in second place in the Premier League, one point behind Chelsea. Manchester City could have gone top with a victory, but their game with Sunderland at the Etihad Stadium was called off because of the extreme weather conditions.
Robin van Persie had two great chances to score against his former team, an early shot that was saved by Wojciech Szczesny, and also a late header that was superbly stopped by the Polish goalkeeper.
Arsenal's best chance came from defender Laurent Koscielny, whose header from a corner was cleared off the line by Antonio Valencia.
