Danny Welbeck sank 10-man Leicester City on his return from injury for Arsenal with a stoppage time winner that could prove pivotal in this season’s title race.

The visitors had taken the lead from the spot in the first half, after Jamie Vardy was brought down in the box by full-back Nacho Monreal.

The Foxes’ free-scoring frontman duly stepped up and slammed the penalty to Petr Cech’s left as the goalkeeper dived the wrong way.

Another shock away win looked on the cards for Claudio Ranieri’s men until Danny Simpson received his marching orders shortly after the half-time break.

The full-back received his second yellow card of the afternoon for bringing down Olivier Giroud and from then on, Leicester were under the cosh.

Substitute Theo Walcott levelled the game up a quarter of an hour later, tapping past Kasper Schmeichel from an angle.

The Danish ‘keeper then made several impressive saves to stop his side from falling behind but he was eventually undone after the minimum four minutes of stoppage time had elapsed, as Welbeck notched with a glanced header.
