Arsenal injury news: Alexis Sanchez returns for Leicester match but Jack Wilshere and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain remain sidelined

Sanchez has missed the last two games for Arsenal but will return in a bid to help them make up for Saturday's north London derby defeat

Alexis Sanchez will return to the Arsenal squad for tomorrow’s Premier League visit of Leicester as the Gunners look to recover from a disastrous north London derby defeat to Tottenham.

The 2-1 scoreline may not be the worst result Arsenal have experienced over the years, but it was there manner of defeat and the lacklustre performance, not to mention another loss in a 12.45pm kick-off, that gave fans the biggest cause for concern.

Manager Arsene Wenger wants his side to recover quickly and admitted the best way to do so will be to see off a Leicester side that finds itself in unexpected turmoil following the drama surround Nigel Pearson on Sunday night.

Sanchez’s return will help that cause a great deal, given that the Chile international has been the standout performer for the Gunners this season. The 26-year-old missed the defeat to Spurs after picking up a hamstring injury that also kept him out of the victory over Aston Villa eight days’ ago.

"We had a very strong run before Saturday so we just want to continue that. We need to respond strongly,” Wenger said in a pre-match press conference on Monday morning.

"We have to deal with our performances. The criticism is always there. We have to focus on our performances. I don't take criticism personally. What I take personally is losing games.

"We have a good opportunity to show that we have the strength and quality to deal with pressure."

However, while Sanchez is available for the match against the Foxes, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain remains sidelined with a groin injury, while Wenger is also reluctant to put a timescale on the return of Jack Wilshere after he underwent ankle surgery last November.

"We have to monitor him [Wilshere] daily and see how he develops. I don't know when he'll return,” Wenger said.

He added on Oxlade-Chamberlain’s condition: "He's not back. He's got at least two more weeks."

Leicester were in good form since the turn of the year, but back-to-back defeats to Manchester United and Crystal Palace has brought them back down to earth, and at one point on Sunday night it appeared manager Pearson had been sacked following an altercation with Palace midfielder James McArthur.

Having been accidentally taken out by McArthur, Pearson put his hands around the neck of the Scotland international, although at first he appeared to be joking. However, when McArthur tried to return to the pitch, Pearson held him back and things appeared to become heated.

It was then reported that Pearson had paid the price with his job, but after hours of silence the club issued a statement to “clarify” Pearson’s position and announce that he had not been sacked. It came after staff at the club were reportedly informed that Pearson was no longer in charge, and places his future in serious doubt even if he is still the boss for tomorrow’s trip to Arsenal.
