Arsenal injury news: Jack Wilshere ruled out for another month while Danny Welbeck and Tomas Rosicky remain injured ahead of Liverpool clash

Wilshere picked up an ankle injury in pre-season and will miss the Monday night match with Liverpool as well as England's two upcoming matches

Arsenal will not be able to call on the services of Jack Wilshere until at least mid-September after manager Arsene Wenger ruled the midfielder out of this Monday's important clash with Liverpool as well as England's upcoming European Championship qualifiers with San Marino and Switzerland.

Wilshere has not played a game yet this season after suffering an ankle injury during training in a collision with defender Gabriel Paulista, although Wenger was quick to confirm that it was not his troublesome left ankle but rather a fresh injury to his right one.

The 23-year-old had been keen to get a solid pre-season under his belt with the ambition to enjoy an injury-free season after a plague of injuries over the years, but his hopes were immediately dashed a week before the start of the season having not played since the Emirates Cup victory over Wolfsburg.

Speaking ahead of Monday’s encounter with Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium, Wenger said: "Playing before the international break is a bit too optimistic, it’s too early to think he would be playing for England.

“After the international break he has a chance, but before the international break he has no chance."

The respective knee injuries suffered to Danny Welbeck and Tomas Rosicky continue to puzzle the Arsenal medical team. When Welbeck was originally ruled out in April, Wenger described his recovery time as up to a fortnight, yet the striker has been unable to train for nearly four months now and Wenger admitted last week that his knock is a strange one.

Along with midfielder Rosicky though, Wenger confirmed that the pair are making “progress”, but will not return before Wilshere meaning that they look set for at least another month on the sidelines.

"Danny Welbeck is making good progress, but is still not available,” Wenger added. "Rosicky is progressing nicely but he is far away."

The Gunners’ manager also acknowledged calls from desperate Arsenal fans who want to see the club sign a new striker before the transfer deadline, preferably Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema. Wenger confirmed that he remains active in the transfer market, and hinted that the striker could yet arrive at the Emirates.

“We expect to make a signing but we are not close,” he admitted.
