Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has responded to claims made by Alan Shearer suggesting the Gunners need to make three signings to sustain their challenge for honours.

Former Newcastle United forward and current BBC Sport pundit Shearer believes Arsene Wenger needs to add a centre-half, midfielder and striker to challenge at the top of the Premier League alongside their campaign in the Champions League.

The 45-year-old said: "They always seem to get injuries – already this season is no exception – so they need to strengthen their squad for the second half of the season.

"Another centre-forward, a defensive midfielder and a centre-half should all be on Arsene Wenger’s list but the difficult thing for Wenger is to find a way of doing that in the middle of the season to improve his team."

But Giroud, speaking after the 1-0 victory against the Magpies which opened up a two point gap at the summit, disagrees.

The Frenchman told the Daily Mirror: "Tell me where! Just tell me where! I will explain the opposite judgement.

"We have very good players as well on the bench, young players waiting to come in. They are very talented. I am not worried about it.

"Danny Welbeck will come back in a month and a half. Theo Walcott can play up front, Joel Campbell is doing well with his national team up front. If I am less good or get injured, we still have a solution."
