Arsenal team news: Mesut Ozil out of squad vs Everton as new manager Mikel Arteta watches from the stands
Ozil is one of five changes made by the Swede in his final match in charge as caretaker boss
Mesut Ozil has been left out of the Arsenal squad by Freddie Ljungberg for the game against Everton with new head coach Mikel Arteta to watch from the stands at Goodison Park.
The Spaniard signed a three-and-a-half year contract to succeed Unai Emery on Friday, though Ljungberg remains in charge for the final time as caretaker boss and has made five changes following the heavy defeat at home to Manchester City.
Ozil has an injury, but Ljungberg also confirmed he would not have selected him anyway due to what happened against Manchester City.
“Mesut wouldn’t have been in the squad anyway given what happened in the last game,” said Ljungberg.
As well as Ozil missing out entirely, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Sead Kolasinac, Matteo Guendouzi and Nicolas Pepe all drop out of the starting line-up.
While Carlo Ancelotti will join him Arteta in the stands, after Everton confirmed his appointment as their new manager this morning, with Duncan Ferguson also taking his final game in charge as caretaker manager.
