Petr Cech is a major doubt for Saturday’s north London derby after picking up a calf injury during Arsenal’s 5-1 win against Everton at the weekend.

The goalkeeper, who has not missed a Premier League game this season, was forced off in the second half of Arsenal’s thumping victory on Sunday after landing awkwardly. Cech was assessed on Monday but is unlikely to be available to face Tottenham at Wembley.

Back-up goalkeeper David Ospina is expected to step in for the Czech, having made his appearances exclusively in the Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup this season.

This will be Ospina’s first Premier League start since the 2-2 draw with Manchester City in April last year.

Since joining in the summer of 2014, the 29-year-old has made 23 league appearances.

Arsenal are also expecting Nacho Monreal to return to the defence against Tottenham on Saturday following illness. Depending on what system Arsene Wenger chooses, the Spaniard could be deployed at full-back or as a third centre-back.
