Chelsea’s Premier League fixture against Arsenal was delayed by 15 minutes after a number of flares were let off outside the ground.

The match, which pitted Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger up against each other for the twelfth time in total, was due to begin at 14.05, but an announcement was made over the tannoy system shortly before the planned kick-off that confirmed the game would be delayed until 14.20.

It was soon reported on social media that a selection of Arsenal fans had set off flares outside of Stamford Bridge, and that the gates had been closed to those supporters of the Gunners who had not yet made their way into the stadium.

It comes after Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Galatasaray was briefly halted by the Turkish fans throwing numerous flares onto the pitch. Arsenal are already facing action due to the incident on Wednesday, and should it transpire that it was their fans responsible for the delay to the game, it will not go down well with the Premier League nor the local authorities.
