De Gea was the man of the match in United victory over Liverpool at the weekend, but afterwards Van Gaal refused to discuss any talk of a new contract for the player when questioned.
"That is between the club and the player and it is not open for discussion for the media," he said.
De Gea made a total of eight brilliant saves against Liverpool at Old Trafford, including three each from Raheem Sterling and Mari Balotellli.
