DJ Spoony risks wrath of Manchester United fans by playing Liverpool's 'You'll Never Walk Alone' at Old Trafford

DJ Spoony delivered the bombshell during the Super League Grand Final, but some United fans have also seen the funny side of it

There’s some things you just don’t do at Old Trafford. Things like wear a Manchester City shirt on any other day than the Manchester derby, or go against anything that Sir Alex Ferguson tells you to do.

Or play Liverpool’s iconic anthem ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ over the stadium tannoy. But somebody forgot to tell DJ Spoony.

The 45-year-old former Radio One presenter was on hand on Saturday night to keep fans entertained at the Super League Grand Final between Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors.

But in the build-up to the match, the DJ posted a video on Twitter to hint that he was going to play the Anfield anthem, yet nobody believed he’d actually have the nerve to do it.

However, Those in attendance at the stadium for the Super League showcase found out that DJ Spoony was a man of hiw word. As the stands began to fill ahead of kick-off - and one of two sets by The Charlatans - DJ Spoony hit the decks and left sections of the supporters stunned as they clocked what was going on.

The self-confessed Liverpool fan seized his chance though, and in scenes that will have Manchester United fans exploding with rage, he delivered the goods. And while he would be forgiven for making a swift exit from the Theatre of Dreams, the response on Twitter proved to be a mixed one as many United fans saw the funny side of it.

Of course, neither Manchester nor Liverpool could boast a team in the Grand Final as Leeds pipped Wigan to secure a famous treble and give veteran trio Jamie Peacock, Kevin Sinfield and Kylie Leuluai a fitting send off.
