Everton planning own tribute to 96 victims of Hillsborough disaster

Everton are planning a series of acts of remembrance on Monday night when they face Newcastle United at Goodison Park following the findings of the Hillsborough Independent Panel on Wednesday.

Messages of support for the families of the 96 Liverpool supporters who died will be highlighted on the club's jumbo screens for the evening of the game.

Everton are aware of the sensitivity of the next few days in light of the findings of the Hillsborough panel, which, after 23 years, exonerated Liverpool fans.

The report blamed the emergency services for the disaster that led to 96 fans dying, and proved that 41 could have been saved after the 3.15pm cut-off point that had been originally imposed by coroner Stefan Popper.

Everton have a series of acts planned to remember the 96 victims during their first home game since the shocking findings were made public on Wednesday.

They do not plan to unveil a mosaic with their supporters as this has not been done before but they do plan to hold acts of remembrance that they believe will be a fitting tribute to the supporters of their Merseyside neighbours who so tragically died that day at Hillsborough.
