Everton will hope to put their poor September form behind them and get back to winning ways when they host Burnley at Goodison Park, with manager Ronald Koeman under pressure to turn around fortunes at the Toffees.
A promising summer in the transfer window has delivered little, and run of two wins in nine games – which came against Sunderland in the EFL Cup after extra-time and last weekend’s 2-1 league win over Bournemouth – has seen the Merseyside team fall well short of expectations.
Burnley meanwhile have made a flying start to the season and could consolidate their place in the top half of the table with a victory this afternoon.

21 mins: Everton 0 Burnley 1 (Hendrick)
It's the visitors who take the lead and that will do nothing to help the atmosphere inside Goodison Park. The ball is worked in from the right of the field and when it comes in to Jeff Hendrick on the edge of the six-yard box, he transfers the ball onto his right foot and coolly slots past the diving Pickford to put the Clarets ahead.
30 mins: Everton have bounced back well from the goal, with Gueye firing a shot wide after Niasse was forced away from goal. the Toffees are still dominating possession, which strengthens the question as to why they are conceding so often?
40 mins: It's become very scrappy since the goal and as Niasse tries his hand from long-range, the first signs of murmurs from the home fans appear. Burnley respond with a flurry of crosses, and the ball falls to Arfield in the box with a great chance after Williams' clearance is blocked! He spins under pressure from the Everton man, but throws himself to the turf and receives a yellow card for diving for his effort.

Half-time: Well it's not pretty from Everton, and despite having the larger share of possession, they probably don't deserve anything from that half. Sigurdsson has looked frustrated since that early miss, while Burnley have been clinical and look the more likely to score - which they did do when Jeff Hendrick was calm enough to sell Pickford the wrong way and open the scoring.
52 mins: More frustration for Everton as Williams launches a long ball over the top that is so long, it runs all the way off the pitch. He's jeered for the effort and apologises to his teammates, and that gives Koeman reason to call back Wayne Rooney and prepare the former England captain for his introduction off the bench.
57 mins: Baines fires a cross over the cross bar to draw more fury from the home fans, and they are furious when a clear corner against Mee is not given, much to Koeman's frustration. That said, he still hasn't changed anything, as Rooney waits patiently near the dugout.
Baines then takes down Brady after being beaten to the ball, and gets a yellow card for his efforts.
66 mins: Big chance for Burnley to double the lead as Brady is put in behind down the left. He has an unmarked Wood in the middle, but his attempted cross is too close to Pickford and he snaffles the ball. Everton break down the other end and a seemingly innocuous Mee clearance cannons back over Cork towards goal, only for Pope to rush out and claim it.
