Marco Silva says he's staying focused amid Everton investigation

It may only be September and five games into the Premier League season, but already this match has been billed as a must-win game for West Ham and their winless manager, Manuel Pellegrini.

Defeats against Liverpool, Bournemouth, Arsenal and Wolves leaves the Hammers rooted to the bottom of the table after spending over £100m in the summer transfer window.

Marco Silva's start at Everton has had a much smoother start to life at his new club than his opponent in the dugout. A win takes them within touching distance of the top-four, but they remain without joint-top scorer Richarlison, who is serving the third game of his suspension after seeing red against Bournemouth.

Birthday boy Manuel Pellegrini to remain true to values despite poor start

Manuel Pellegrini insists he has no fears over West Ham potentially setting an unwanted new club record this weekend.

Lose at Everton in Sunday's top-flight clash and Pellegrini's class of 2018 would become the first West Ham side to taste defeat in all first five matches of a league season.

West Ham remain pointless and rooted to the Premier League's foot just four matches into Pellegrini's tenure, but the Chilean boss remains unfazed by the slow start.

Asked if he feared another defeat, Pellegrini replied: "I'm not worried about statistics, I'm worried about trying to find a team to play well and win the game.

"In this moment I trust more than ever what I do.

"Because it's not the first time that I'm doing the same work.

"It's not the first time in my career I've had bad results.

"It's not good to start like that, but I'm absolutely confident we can turn it around."

2: The pattern of this game is already taking shape and it is Everton, unsurprisingly, on top at the start.

Kenny combines well with Sigurdsson to set up Walcott to shoot but Diop is on hand to block his effort inside the penalty area. Pellegrini is already patrolling his technical area and barking out instructions.

6: Zabaleta passes his first test against Lucas Digne and Calvert-Lewin, you sens that the former Manchester City defender is going to have to be on his toes on that wing this afternoon.

8: Walcott creates a good opening for himself on the right with a lovely bit of skill to get past Obiang, but nothing comes of it. What we need to discuss is Theo Walcott's top-knot in his hair. I can't tell whether it's terrible or terrible...

10: Back to the football and Gueye tries to find Calvert-Lewin with a clipped ball over the West Ham defence. The forward is racing away from Zabaleta, but Fabianski timed his run and sweeps up.

Everton 0-1 West Ham

Yarmolenko scores on his first West Ham start!

Arnautovic collects Obiang's ball over the top, holds up the play and importantly gets his head up to find his teammate in the middle. Yarmolenko is patiently waiting unmarked in the centre of the box and receives the ball to tap in the opening goal.
