Former Arsenal supporter Tim Sherwood compares Christian Eriksen to Dennis Bergkamp

Spurs manager was full of praise for the playmaker after his goal against West Brom

Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood has previously admitted that he supported fierce rivals Arsenal in his youth, so Christian Eriksen should take his latest compliment in the highest regard.

Sherwood has compared the Danish playmaker with the Gunners legend Dennis Bergkamp after his terrific recent run of form for Spurs.

On Saturday, Spurs trailed 3-2 at West Brom before the 22-year-old equalised in the 90th minute with a cool finish past Ben Foster to secure the draw.

"Eriksen is one who just can't be left out. He's Bergkamp-esque," Sherwood enthused. Eriksen has now scored four goals in his last four Premier League appearances.

"You want someone to rush those chances, as an opposition manager, but when it lands to him you know he's going to be ice cold.

"Once he cut inside I knew the net was catching the ball."

Before he took the manager's job in December, footage emerged of Sherwood, then a coach at Tottenham, discussing Arsenal on TV show Sport and Leisure in April 2008, in which he said:

"I'd love to see them [Arsenal] do well, I grew up an Arsenal fan as a kid.

"My dad still goes to the Emirates every week."

There are no question marks over his support now though, with the manager saying he is "the biggest Tottenham fan" after Spurs 1-0 defeat by the Gunners last month.

In the build-up to that match, he also said: "There’s nothing better than to beat Arsenal."
