Frank Lampard scored 211 goals for Chelsea in a 13-year career. He now has one against them after a typical late run into the box brought Manchester City level late on against his former side in the 1-1 draw.

The midfielder was clearly shaken by the emotion of the occasion. He refused to celebrate, instead holding an almost resigned hand up to the Manchester City fans.

Post-match, he spoke of his surprise at having scored, saying that he never expected to come on and make such an impact against his old club.

The goal provided mirth for wags on social media however, with Twitter inundated with satirical postings poking harmless fun at Lampard's act of treachery.

Jose Mourinho seemed less inclined to see either the humorous or emotional side of the goal, which denied Chelsea an extension to their perfect start to the season after Andre Schurrle had given them the lead.

Mourinho said pragmatically: "That's football. He [Lampard] is a Man City player. He did his job as a professional."
