Gary Neville may have hung up his boots in 2011, but the former Manchester United rivalry with Liverpool remains as fierce as ever.

So what did the 40-year-old suggest to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Liverpool’s last league title success? An all-day knees up.

Neville was responded to a tweet posted by The Times’ journalist Oliver Kay, in which he highlighted how absurd the thought that Liverpool would not win a title for a quarter of a century would have been back in 1990, the year of their last success.

Kay wrote: “Twenty-five years today since Liverpool were last crowned champions. You would have been sectioned for predicting that in 1990.”

In response, Neville couldn’t stop himself from having a dig at the fans he spent infuriating on the pitch with his performances for United.

He tweeted: “All Dayer??”

Liverpool supporters will take some solace in that United are no longer the dominating force that they were for much of the 25-year drought, but the signs this season suggest it will be Louis van Gaal’s side challenging at the top sooner than Brendan Rodgers’.

Neville never held back in celebrating against Liverpool
