Gerrard ruled out for rest of season with groin injury
Steven Gerrard's season is over after a scan indicated his latest groin injury will not heal before June. Gerrard broke down in training eight days ago as he prepared to make a return from an operation on his groin. Kenny Dalglish, the Liverpool manager, admitted: "We still don't know definitively what the problem is, but he won't be involved again this season."
In the early years of his career Gerrard developed a reputation for being injury-prone, but he has never suffered a season as bad as this one, which has been restricted to 29 appearances with club and country.
Liverpool are also without Daniel Agger for the remainder of the season while Glen Johnson and Martin Kelly are unlikely to return from hamstring injuries until May.
"Without being disrespectful to the players who are injured, the most important are the ones who are fit because they can be chosen," said Dalglish, adding: "At this particular moment, I'm as good a player as Steven." Liverpool are at home to Manchester City on Monday.
