Jack Wilshere injury: Arsenal midfielder gives update on his recovery from injured ankle as he returns to the gym

Wilshere was ruled out for at least three months after he suffered damaged ankle ligaments during the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United

Jack Wilshere has posted an update of his recovery from his latest ankle injury to show he is back in light training despite still wearing a protective boot on his injured left foot.

The Arsenal midfielder it currently ruled out until well into 2015 after suffering ankle ligament damage in a challenge by Manchester United defender Paddy McNair, with Arsene Wenger expecting him to return at some point in March.

Even though Wilshere is still in the protective boot, he has already started training by completing cardio work with his upper body, and Wenger confirmed that he has not suffered a setback as was reported earlier this month.

Posting a video on his Instragram account, Wilshere said: “Doing what I can I [sic] be back as soon as possible... #Grind #HardWorkBeatsTalent.

“If you know then you know....2 x 30 seconds of this is enough to test anyone!”

Arsenal face Liverpool on Sunday with a number of injury concerns to key players still on their hands. Their problems in defence and attack have been aided by the return to fitness and form of Olivier Giroud and Mathieu Debuchy, while Calum Chambers will also be available again following his one-match suspension for being sent-off against Manchester United.

However, Wilshere joins Mesut Özil on the sidelines for the long-term with the German playmaker still absent after suffering knee ligament damage in the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea, and Wenger has also revealed fears that Aaron Ramsey’s hamstring injury could be worse than first feared and may keep him out of the entire festive period.

When speaking to arsenal.co.uk, Wenger confirmed that was still on course for his original return date having been ruled out for three months.

“How long will Wilshere be out? Three months, and he had no setback,” said Wenger. “He is just in a boot, he cannot have a setback because he does not practise.”

He added on Friday that the latest update on Wilshere was that he is “progressing as planned”.
