Jack Wilshere trolled after tweeting picture of Manchester United legends by accident

Arsenal midfielder's attempt at an uplifting tweet for fans went horribly wrong

Arsenal's title hopes were officially extinguished on Sunday, with Arsene Wenger conceding after his side's 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace that the summit of the table was now out of reach.

At the full time whistle of yesterday's game at the Emirates, in which Yannick Bolasie levelled the score after Alexis Sanchez's opener, boos rang out around the stadium from the home fans.

In a bid to foster a sense of togetherness, Jack Wilshere decided to post what was supposed to be an uplifting message on Twitter.

Along with the hashtags #AFC and #Together the Arsenal midfielder posted a picture with the words "This is our club, today and forever" that also featured the club crest and a silhouette of a statue. However the statue was not of former Arsenal players but of Manchester United's holy trinity of George Best, Sir Bobby Charlton and Denis Law that stands outside Old Trafford.

It didn't take long for the gaffe to be pointed out to Wilshere, who soon removed the picture.

The draw with Crystal Palace means Arsenal are in a real fight for Champions League qualification. The club sit fourth in the table, the final qualifying spot, four points above Manchester United with five games to go.

The Gunners are next in action on Thursday when they play West Brom.
