'Jamie Carragher would make a terrible manager,' says former Liverpool team-mate Xabi Alonso ahead of Steven Gerrard charity game

Spanish midfielder will play for Gerrard's team at Anfield game

Xabi Alonso has claimed that former Liverpool team-mate Jamie Carragher would make a 'terrible manager' ahead of the Steven Gerrard charity match at Anfield on Sunday.

The Bayern Munich midfielder, who was team-mates of both Carragher and Gerrard for five years, will play on Gerrard's team for the game in aid of the Liverpool FC Foundation and other charities.

Alonso will be one of the star attractions for the game, alongside former Reds heroes Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres, as well Thierry Henry, Didier Drogba and John Terry.

"I’m glad I’m in Stevie’s team because I’m pretty sure Carra will be a terrible manager," Alonso told LFC TV.

"So I’d rather be in Stevie’s team and it’s going to be a great game and we are going to have great fun. It’s going to be good to see friends who we have been apart from for a few years, so it’s going to be really nice going back to the stadium."

Despite great success with Real Madrid after leaving Anfield, the spaniard says he has retained a special relationship with the Reds.

"For five years I haven’t had the chance to go back there. I spent five great years there and have great memories of those years," said Alonso.

"We had wonderful nights at Anfield. Of course it’s going to be a special game for us and Stevie, and it’s for a great cause. It has all of the ingredients to be special for everyone."
