Jamie Vardy: West Brom winner 'more important' for Leicester City than Manchester United strike

The Foxes are now favourites with some bookmakers to avoid the drop

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy says his late winner against West Brom is more significant than his strike in the victory over Manchester United in September.

The former Fleetwood Town forward found the net in the 92nd minute at the Hawthorns to take the Foxes to within three points of Premier League safety.

Following the 2-1 win over West Ham United the week before, it gave Leicester their first taste of back-to-back victories since that stunning 5-3 destruction of Louis van Gaal's men.

But Vardy believes his recent exploits will have more weight over the outcome in their fight to remain in the top flight.

Remarkably, most national bookmakers now believe Nigel Pearson's side to be favourites out of the bottom five to avoid the drop.

"It's definitely more important," Vardy told the Leicester Mercury. "It has moved us back to within three points of safety with a game in hand.

"I saw the centre-half backing off and I fancy myself in a race against anyone. I just knocked it to the left and drilled it as hard as I could and it ended up in the bottom corner.

"Any goal is a good feeling but it managed to get three points for us. You could see what it meant to the fans, they were all going mad. It's one for them.

"It is one of my most important goals but it is on to the next game now."
