Jurgen Klopp not to blame for Liverpool injury crisis, insists Emre Can

Germany midfielder defends his manager after claims by some suggest Liverpool are struggling to meet high demands

Liverpool midfielder Emre Can insists Jürgen Klopp’s management is not to blame for their recent injury crisis.

The Reds were forced to play a weakened side for the FA Cup to face Exeter last week, which they drew 2-2, while Steven Caulker, the former England defender, joined on loan from Queens Park Rangers.

Speaking to The Times, the German midfielder said: “People say Jürgen Klopp training us too hard is the reason we have so many injuries. We’re not. It’s nonsense.”

The 22-year-old is enjoying life under fellow countryman Klopp at Anfield and believes the Merseyside outfit can go far under his leadership despite an indifferent start.

“Liverpool are a top club and we should be in the top four and that’s definitely our target,” Can says.

“I’m sure we will win trophies in the future. We can definitely win the title in the future because Liverpool are such a big club.”

The Reds face Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday hoping to go level on points with Louis van Gaal’s side.
