Leicester vs Sunderland match report: Foxes now 500 minutes without a goal after being held

Leicester's Thai owners wheeled out their lucky charms – a band of Buddhist monks – but even their spiritual influence failed to work on a team who have now failed to score a goal for 500 minutes.

The last time the honoured guests of the Srivaddhanaprabha family flew in, the Foxes responded with a 5-3 win over Manchester United but, even after a dressing room blessing from the monks, Nigel Pearson’s players could not penetrate Sunderland's stubborn defence. It might take more than that to end the goal drought.

Leicester boss Pearson said: “I’m not aware of any anxiety about not scoring goals, not among the players.”

Both sides kept their first clean sheets in six matches, while Sunderland have picked up five points from their last three games.

Manager Gus Poyet said: “We used to say we were difficult to play until that bad game (losing 8-0 at Southampton) and now we are back.’

Kasper Schmeichel’s saves kept the home side in the game, spreading himself to divert a Steven Fletcher shot wide, and saving a 30 yarder from Adam Johnson. But chances were few.
