Liverpool had plenty to cheer about after beating Premier League leaders Leicester on Boxing Day to end a run of four matches without a victory, but it came at a cost for defender Alberto Moreno.

The Spaniard was one of a number of team-mates that rushed to Christian Benteke’s side when the substitute struck the winner after 63 minutes, with the Reds then doing their best to hold onto the result as the Foxes attempted to keep their unbeaten run alive.

It wasn’t to be though as Leicester’s effort went in vain, but Moreno found himself on the wrong end of a painful challenge – by his own team-mate.

As the Liverpool players celebrated Benteke’s winner, Emre Can leaped up and onto the shoulders of the striker as well as Adam Lallana. However, Moreno was clearly in quick pursuit of the Germany international, and he managed to catch his boot square in the face as they all leaped for joy.

The painful image was captured by photographers at Anfield, although luckily Moreno did not suffer any facial injury in what could have been one of the Premier League’s bizarre injury stories.
