Reds manager makes claim after being asked about Jose Mourinho’s description of Chelsea as a 'little horse' in race for top spot

Brendan Rodgers compared his Liverpool team to a “chihuahua” as they moved within four points of Chelsea.

Liverpool won 3-2 at Fulham and they are now close to challenging for the Premier League title, with home games against Chelsea and Manchester City left to come.

Rodgers has shied away from talking about the title all season but, in the aftermath of victory, allowed himself an animal metaphor he promised he would not make. “I don’t do all that horse stuff,” Rodgers said, asked about Jose Mourinho’s description of Chelsea as a “little horse.” “Jose is very good at all that. I am not about horses. We may be the chihuahuas that run in between the horse’s legs. But we are just about improving with each match.”

Liverpool have lost just two of their last 13 league games, are unbeaten in seven. “There is still a long way to go, 12 games. Our concentration is always on the next game.”

Rodgers said that Luis Suarez, who has scored just once in his last six games, would be happy with Champions League football ahead of the golden boot. “Would Luis want the golden boot or be in the Champions League? He'd want to be in the Champions League. He's such a selfless player, working wide and pressing all the time. The team is the most important thing.” On current form ,Suarez is likely to get both.
