Premier League season in numbers

Chelsea could only manage a draw with Huddersfield, and thus Liverpool know any kind of positive result against Brighton should assure them a place in next season’s Champions League. They may yet, of course, win this year’s competition, but Jurgen Klopp should be keen to finish the Premier League season strongly and secure a top-four spot.

Brighton have little to play for but pride and the financial incentives that come with finishing higher in the league. Written off by many before the season began, Chris Hughton’s team are sitting comfortably in 14th heading in to the final day, and a victory at Anfield would be an excellent capper on an excellent debut Premier League season.

Liverpool may take their eyes off the ball a little, with the Champions League final just a week away. Klopp will not want any of his key men picking up injuries but knows a loss opens the door for Chelsea, and thus it should be a relatively strong Liverpool team.

Preview

What time does it start?

Liverpool vs Brighton kicks off at 3pm.

Where can I watch it?

The match will be shown live on Sky Sports Main Event from 2.45pm

It’s a big game for…

Mo Salah still has an outside chance of breaking Ian Rush’s Liverpool record for goals in a season. The Egyptian has 43 goals from 50 games, and needs just four more to tie Rush with the Champions League final still to come after this game.

Weird Stat

4 – Lewis Dunk has scored four own goals this season, tying the Premier League record for most in a season. No other player has scored more than one. Dunk has put the ball in his own net on both his previous appearances against Liverpool.

Remember when…

Brighton shocked a star-studded Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield in the fifth round of the 1983 FA Cup. It was an amazing cup run that year for the Seagulls, taking Manchester United to a replay in the final.

Player to watch…

After notching his first goal since returning to the club against Manchester City, Leonardo Ulloa will look to put in another good showing. It may prove to be the Leicester loanee’s last game in a Brighton shirt.

Past-three meetings…

Brighton 1 (Murray) Liverpool 5 (Can, Firmino 2, Coutinho, Dunk og), Premier League, December 2017

Liverpool 6 (Skrtel, Bridcutt og, Carroll, Gerrard, Dunk og, Suarez) Brighton 1 (Lua Lua), FA Cup, February 2012

Brighton 1 (Barnes) Liverpool 2 (Bellamy, Kuyt), League Cup, September 2011

3-1 LEICESTER! KELECHI IHEANACHO!

Harry Latham-Coyle13 May 2018 16:06

Leicester are rather enjoying playing North London clubs. They beat Arsenal 3-1 in midweek and now lead by the same scoreline at Wembley, with the same three scorers to boot. Kelechi Iheanacho scores an absolute corker, rifling into the top corner.

ERIK LAMELA SCORES FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2016! 2-3 AT WEMBLEY!

Harry Latham-Coyle13 May 2018 16:10

Leicester should feel hard done by - the Argentine was just offside from young right-back Kyle Walker-Peters' ball-in. The flag doesn't go up, though, and Lamela scores into an empty net.
