Louis van Gaal is demanding his high-profile players prove they are good enough to play for his Manchester United side.

As he searches for his first win at the fifth attempt as the United manager, Van Gaal insisted that the time for talking about the men on whom he has spent £157million is over. It is time for them to show what they can do on the pitch.

“They have to show it now and I hope they shall show it,” he said before this afternoon’s game against Queens Park Rangers at Old Trafford.

“When I present Falcao or Daley Blind (for their introductory press conferences), I say something about their qualities. You need the arguments about why I buy players; that is logical.

“After that, it is over. What I have to say about Falcao, what I have to say about Robin van Persie, what I have to say about Wayne Rooney does not matter. They are great players, they have great records but you have to do it in the game on Sunday.

“You have to show it. That is not only true for Van Persie, Rooney or Falcao but for all the players at Manchester United – they have to show themselves in a team.”

Van Gaal revealed earlier this week that he sold Danny Welbeck to Arsenal for £16m because he thought he was not up to the standard required at Old Trafford.
