Lucas Leiva says goodbye to Liverpool...but then claims he was only bidding farewell to the season

Midfielder made some confusing statements on social media today

It looked like an emotional goodbye after seven years, but Lucas Leiva has backtracked on his Instagram post from earlier today, claiming he was only bidding farewell to the season, "nothing else".

The Brazil midfielder wrote today after Liverpool's final game of the season yesterday:

"Yesterday I finished my 7th season with Liverpool. I want to thank the ones who supported me all this years. #thankyou #goodbye."

The 27-year-old was once known as "Lord Lucas" by Liverpool supporters for his capacity to go missing in the big matches, but over the years has endeared himself to the Anfield faithful.

This sparked comments from upset Reds supporters, thanking him for his time at the club, and pleading with him not to leave.

Lucas then clarified his situation through a different social media platform, Twitter, seven minutes later:

"The goodbye that I said it is about the season that finished nothing else."
