Manchester City vs Tottenham: Sergio Aguero may have scored four goals against Spurs, but Joe Hart reveals he is 'useless' in training

The Manchester City striker certainly knows to turn it on when it matters most after he scored all four goals in the 4-1 win over Spurs on Saturday

Sergio Aguero is one of the worst trainers in Manchester City’s squad, but he still managed to turn it on against Tottenham on Saturday as he put four goals past Spurs to secure a 4-1 win on Saturday – and he could have had more.

City goalkeeper Joe Hart has spoken of the brilliance that Aguero demonstrated at the Etihad Stadium, but went on to reveal that the Argentinian hot-shot is “useless” when it comes to training.

Aguero nearly had a 32-minute hat-trick against Spurs had he not missed his second penalty attempt of the day. Despite Hugo Lloris saving his effort having already been beaten twice by Aguero, he was helpless to prevent the 26-year-old from slotting his third attempt into the back of the net, and just to add insult to injury he popped up with a fourth to round out the scoring.

Not only did it take his season tally to 10 in all competitions, his four goals saw him become City’s leading goalscorers since the club was taken over by Khaldoon Al-Mubarak in 2008, with his 61 Premier League goals surpassing the 58 scored by Carlos Tevez.

Hart was quick to reveal that Aguero was a different player when it came to the training ground, as he was a player that new when to turn it on when it matters most.

“He is one of those players - and I don't think he will be unhappy with me saying it - that some days you look at him in training and he is useless!” said Hart.

“That is just down to him, and you know that when it comes to games he is going to score, because he is that talented, that good a player.

“He is a big-match player and deserves to be at a big club like this, scoring goals for these fans, and I can't be positive enough about him. He deserves all the plaudits he gets.

“Finishing-wise he is one of the best and his goals-to-games ratio in the Premier League is the best.”

Aguero has struggled to string together a consistent run of games without picking up niggling injuries, but Hart added that he is still young enough to overcome his injury troubles and become one of the world’s best strikers.

“He still has a lot of work to do,” Hart added. “He is only young and hopefully, if we keep him fit, he will be pushing on.”
