Manchester United hit back at Barcelona over €120 ticket price for Champions League quarter-final

The Nou Camp ticket is the most expensive United fans have ever faced outside of cup finals

Manchester United have ramped up the price of an Old Trafford ticket for visiting Barcelona fans ahead of their upcoming Champions League quarter-final second leg, to match Barcelona’s price of €120 for United fans, and will use the money raised subsidise United fans travelling to Spain.

The Nou Camp ticket is the most expensive United fans have ever faced outside of cup finals.

“We believe that our travelling supporters are again being subjected to increased/excessive ticket prices from the host club,” United said in a statement.

“We have again taken the difficult decision to charge Barcelona fans the same amount Barcelona are charging for the away fixture (£102). We will use the additional revenue gained to subsidise our travelling support by paying the £27 price difference.”

Barcelona insist their prices have not been inflated specifically for the visit of United.

“The prices are the same for the [Man Utd] fans and for our own supporters,” a spokesman for Barcelona told ESPN. “The pricing policy is in keeping with recent knockout games against Lyon and Roma in the last year.

“It doesn’t matter if it’s Man United, Juventus or Lyon -- these are the prices for everyone attending the game -- not including season ticket holders who have all three competitions [La Liga, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey] included in the prices they pay each year.

“Season tickets at Barcelona are cheaper [than at Man Utd]. The cheapest one costs around £120 and includes every competition. At Old Trafford, it costs more than £500 and that’s only for the Premier League games. Everything needs to be in context.”

United have sold ot their allocation of 4,610 tickets for the away leg, with further tickets to go on sale next week ahead of the match on 10 April.

The club made a similar decision last season after Sevilla charged with United described as an “exorbitant” minimum price of £89 for their Europa League tie.
