Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes talks about relationship with teammate Paul Pogba

The Portuguese midfielder has been outstanding for United since his arrival from Sporting in January, but this was the first occasion he had played with Pogba

Bruno Fernandes has talked up his relationship with Manchester United teammate Paul Pogba after the pair played a key role in their late equaliser at Tottenham.

Fernandes scored from the spot to earn a point following Eric Dier’s foul on Pogba in the penalty area, levelling after Steven Bergwijn’s first-half opener for the hosts.

The Portuguese midfielder has been outstanding for United since his arrival from Sporting in January, but this was the first occasion he had played with Pogba, who has struggled with injury this season.

We are training hard in the past weeks,” said Fernandes of his relationship with Pogba. “When we’re in groups I’m in the group with Paul, so to find the connection with him is easier. But also everyone, the most important thing is the team. Paul won the penalty, I kicked it, but it doesn’t matter who scores or does the assist.”

United struggled in the first half and were on the end of a furious rant by former captain Roy Keane, analysing the game on Sky Sports. But they improved in the second period and clinched a crucial point in the race for the Champions League.

“We did very well, it was difficult, they scored on the counter but we were always in the game,” said Fernandes. ”It’s not enough for us, we want to win every game, but it’s a good result. I think it was the same in the second half, we created more chances maybe. After a long stop we did very well. It doesn’t change nothing, as a team we need to look towards the Champions League, be close to catch the guys out in front.

“Unfortunately we are one point closer, but they need to play, we’ll see. I like the pressure, with the crowd maybe better, I score, maybe I shoot another one, we have some good penalty takers. I trust in Rashy, like everybody trusts in me.”
